About Cosmic Jellyfish

Cosmic Jellyfish populates your screen with ethereal, bioluminescent jellyfish that drift through a dark cosmic void, their bells pulsing and tentacles trailing in sync with your music. Each jellyfish responds to a different frequency range -- bass jellyfish are large, slow, and deep-colored while treble jellyfish are small, quick, and iridescent. The result is a living ecosystem where the population dynamics mirror the spectral balance of your track. The jellyfish are rendered with translucent, multi-layered bell geometry that catches and scatters light as they pulse. Internal bioluminescence glows brighter during beat accents, and trailing tentacle particles create flowing light trails that persist for several seconds. The organisms drift through the scene with gentle Brownian motion, occasionally interacting when their paths cross. Cosmic Jellyfish creates a sense of serene wonder. The deep-sea aesthetic combined with cosmic background elements (distant nebulae, star clusters) produces an ambiguous scale -- these could be microscopic organisms or galaxy-sized space creatures. This scale ambiguity adds a layer of mystery and contemplation to the viewing experience.

How it works

Each jellyfish is a hierarchical mesh composed of a bell (hemisphere with sine-wave deformation for pulsing), oral arms (tube geometries with audio-reactive curl), and tentacles (GPU-simulated particle trails with verlet integration). The bell pulse frequency is locked to the beat grid, with amplitude modulated by the assigned frequency band energy. Bioluminescence is implemented as an emissive material with HDR bloom. The scene uses a layered parallax background with nebula textures for depth. Jellyfish count and sizes are balanced to stay within the 50-draw-call budget using instancing where possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many jellyfish appear on screen?+
The default is 5-8 jellyfish of varying sizes. The count adapts to the audio complexity -- sparse tracks show fewer, larger jellyfish while dense tracks populate the scene more heavily.
Are the tentacle physics realistic?+
The tentacles use simplified verlet integration physics that approximate real jellyfish tentacle behavior. They trail behind the bell movement with configurable stiffness and damping.
Can I change the background?+
Yes. The background can be set to deep ocean (dark blue), cosmic void (black with nebulae), or a custom solid color. Each background option includes appropriate atmospheric particles.
