How do you mix two songs together?

Match the second song to the first: change its tempo by the percentage between the two BPMs (up to about 16% sounds usable), and shift its key by one or two semitones if the keys clash on the Camelot wheel. Then line up the beats and balance the volumes. The tool above does the matching and lining up in your browser and gives you the mix as one WAV.

How to mix two songs together

  1. Pick songs that fit. Tempos within about 16% of each other, or at half or double time, and keys close on the Camelot wheel. The fit check above does this for you.
  2. Match the second song. Stretch its tempo and shift its key to the first. Small changes, a few percent and a semitone or two, sound the most natural.
  3. Line up the beats. Slide the offset until the kicks land together, then listen across a full phrase.
  4. Download the mix, or finish in your DAW. The mix download is both songs in one WAV, exactly as you heard them. For more control, load the original Track A and the matched Track B into a DAW, cut to the sections you want, and balance the levels.

This tool does not separate vocals from instruments. For a vocal over an instrumental, start from an a cappella and an instrumental version, or split stems in your DAW first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a mashup of two songs online?+
Drop both songs here. The tool checks whether their tempo and key fit, matches the second song to the first in your browser, and plays them together so you can line up the beats. Then download the mix as one file, or the matched song to finish in a DAW.
Do the songs need the same BPM?+
They need to share a beat grid. Within about 3% sounds natural; up to about 16% works with time-stretching. A song at half or double the tempo of the other also lines up.
Do the songs need to be in the same key?+
Not the same key, but compatible keys: the same Camelot code, one number apart with the same letter, or the relative major or minor. If they clash, the tool suggests a shift of up to two semitones.
Is the mashup maker free?+
Matching, the preview and 60-second downloads of the mix or the matched song are free. A full-length file is $4 once, or included with Artist ($12/mo).
Can I download both songs mixed together?+
Yes. After you line them up, Download the mix gives you one WAV with both songs at the offset and balance you set. The matched second song is also available on its own for a DAW.
Does it remove vocals?+
No. It changes the tempo and key of the whole track. For vocal-only or instrumental parts, use a cappella and instrumental versions or a stem splitter before you combine them.
