About Radial Pulse

Radial Pulse creates expanding concentric rings that emanate from the center of the screen, each ring carrying the energy of a different frequency band. Bass frequencies produce thick, powerful rings while treble generates delicate, fast-moving ripples. The layered rings overlap and intersect, creating complex interference patterns that are unique to each moment in your music. The effect captures the expansive, outward energy of sound waves themselves. Watching Radial Pulse feels like seeing the actual propagation of sound through space -- each beat launches a new ring that races outward and fades as the next one forms. During buildups, rings stack rapidly; during drops, massive rings explode across the entire canvas. Radial Pulse is particularly stunning with bass-heavy music where the low-frequency rings dominate the display with bold, room-filling pulses. The clean geometric aesthetic makes it versatile enough for any brand or style.

How it works

Each concentric ring is generated from a frequency band extracted during offline analysis. Rings are spawned at the center when energy in their band exceeds a threshold, then expand outward at a velocity proportional to the band energy. Ring opacity decays over distance using an exponential falloff. The GPU fragment shader renders all active rings in a single pass using signed distance field calculations, keeping draw calls minimal even with dozens of simultaneous rings.

Chord Detection (L3) assigns ring hue based on the current chord root, Key Color Mapping (L6) tints the ring glow to match the song's key center, and Timbral Fingerprint (L10) controls ring thickness per frequency band by perceptual weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many rings can be active at once?+
The system supports up to 64 simultaneous rings. Older rings fade out naturally as they expand, so the display stays clean even during the busiest passages.
Can I change the ring thickness?+
Yes. Ring thickness, expansion speed, and decay rate are all configurable in the effect settings panel.
Does Radial Pulse respond to individual drum hits?+
Yes. The onset detection system identifies transients like kick drums, snares, and hi-hats, and each triggers a new ring with energy proportional to the hit strength.
