About Emotional Fluid

Emotional Fluid uses science-backed emotion recognition to map the perceived emotional content of your music onto a fluid dynamics simulation. The fluid's color, viscosity, turbulence, and flow patterns are driven by detected emotions: warm reds and oranges flow smoothly for joy and comfort, cool blues and purples form turbulent patterns for sadness, aggressive yellows and blacks create chaotic splashing for anger, and ethereal pastels drift gently for wonder and nostalgia. The emotion model detects multiple simultaneous emotions with varying intensities, and the fluid reflects this complexity through blending. A bittersweet passage might produce warm orange fluid with cool blue undercurrents. An anxious buildup creates fast, turbulent flow with desaturated, uncertain colors. The moment of release brings a flood of saturated, smooth-flowing color. The fluid becomes an emotional mirror of the music. Emotional Fluid is the most emotionally resonant effect in the library. By translating the psychological dimension of music -- the feelings it evokes -- into visible, tangible fluid motion and color, it creates a visualization that connects with viewers on an intuitive, emotional level. You do not need to understand frequency spectrums or beat grids to read Emotional Fluid. You just feel it.

How it works

The neural emotion model runs during offline analysis, producing per-frame emotion vectors with intensities for categories including joy, sadness, anger, tension, release, nostalgia, wonder, and energy. These emotion values drive a parameter mapping layer that translates emotions to fluid simulation parameters: emotion valence maps to color temperature, arousal maps to flow speed, dominance maps to viscosity, and complexity maps to turbulence. The fluid solver is a standard GPU Navier-Stokes implementation with the audio-driven parameters updated each frame. Color injection positions are distributed across the canvas with emotion-mapped colors and force vectors.

Tension Analysis (L4) maps harmonic tension to fluid turbulence and viscosity, Key Color Mapping (L6) selects the emotional color palette from the detected key's warmth, and Narrative Arc (L7) paces fluid energy injection to follow the song's dramatic emotional contour.

Science Behind This Effect

Emotional Fluid's viscosity and color saturation are driven by the valence-arousal model from tempo-emotion research — high arousal creates turbulent flow, low arousal creates gentle drift.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the emotion detection?+
The model is trained on a large dataset of emotionally labeled music. It captures broad emotional categories reliably, though emotional perception is subjective. The model's output can be considered a consensus emotional reading.
Can I override the detected emotions?+
Yes. An emotion curve editor lets you manually adjust the emotion values for any section of the track, giving you full control over the emotional narrative of your visualization.
Does this work with instrumental music?+
Absolutely. The emotion model analyzes musical features (tempo, key, timbre, dynamics) rather than lyrics, so it works equally well with instrumental and vocal music.
