About Neural Network

Neural Network visualizes the internal activations of the actual neural network that analyzes your audio. As music plays, you watch the network's layers light up with activation patterns, see attention weights highlight which frequency bands the model considers important, and observe information flowing from input (raw audio) through hidden layers to output (musical features). It is a visualization of machine cognition in action. The network is rendered as a layered architecture with nodes arranged in the characteristic input-hidden-output structure. Each node's brightness represents its activation level for the current audio frame. Connections between nodes glow with the strength of their weights. Attention heads are visualized as colored arcs that highlight which input features are being attended to at each moment. The flow of information through the network creates a cascading light show that is both technically fascinating and visually beautiful. Neural Network occupies a unique position as a meta-visualization: it visualizes the process of analyzing music, not just the music itself. This makes it inherently educational, offering viewers a window into how MusicMind processes audio. It is also surprisingly beautiful -- the patterns of neural activation produce organic, flowing light displays that are engaging even without understanding the underlying technology.

How it works

The analysis pipeline saves intermediate layer activations during the offline neural analysis pass. These activations are stored alongside the final feature vectors. During rendering, each network layer is represented as a row of instanced sphere nodes. Node emissive intensity is set by the stored activation value for that node at the current time frame. Inter-layer connections are rendered as line segments with opacity proportional to the absolute weight value. Attention weights are rendered as colored arc billboards connecting attended input positions to the current processing layer. A custom camera path moves through the network architecture, providing different perspectives on the information flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the actual neural network?+
Yes. The visualization shows real activation patterns from the neural network that performs the audio analysis. The architecture, layer sizes, and activation values are authentic representations of the model's internal state.
Can I understand what the network is "thinking"?+
While full interpretability of neural networks is an open research problem, the visualization clearly shows which audio features activate which parts of the network. Beat events, harmonic changes, and timbral shifts produce visible activation patterns.
How many layers does the network have?+
The displayed architecture depends on the analysis model being used. The standard model has 6 layers with varying node counts. The visualization adapts automatically to the model architecture.
